05/02/11: 30 Days of Blog

I’m back from the American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA) conference and am brimming with ideas and inspiration and possibilities! While in New York, I met with editors, pitched book ideas to agents and hobnobbed with journalists from across the country. I attended sessions about blogging, ebooks, branding yourself and more. And what I learned is… my blog and brand (and website) need an a shot of adrenalin. So the first step will focusing on blogging. My goal is to write a blog post a day for the next 30 days, in my quest to find my blog identity. In that vein, today’s topic is… What is My Blog Identity?
I heard from panelists who have become experts in dogs, girlfriend getaways, books and more. They’ve done quite well in establishing their niche. I’ve thought of a number of niches I could delve into — the freak beat, urban cycling, mydogisanahole, the writing life. But the problem is, I don’t want to be so monochromatic. I’m a generalist in my career, so I feel compelled to be more of a generalist in my blog. Maybe after 30 days that will change. Maybe I’ll find some kind of theme or tic that I should follow. Hell, maybe I’ll get a follower! For now, here’s to exploring. And here’s to a successful Blogging: Day 1.
