I’m Digging a Grave for Spent Verbiage and I Need Your Help

Join me, please, in compiling a list of words and phrases that need to be retired. This list will be a work in progress, as they come to mind. I’ll avoid corporate jargon and consultant speak on this page. I think that’s deserving of its own future entry. Here, I’ll start:

Game changer

Exceed/ed/ing expectations

Any combination of survive/thrive

Just sayin’

The overuse of “awkward”

Guru

Ninja

Passion (but not in the animal-dance sense)

Engage (in a business sense, not in an anti-marriage–gay or otherwise–sense)

Starting every sentence–every single sentence–with “So …”

The overuse of “experience,” as in, “creating experiences.” That means nothing to me.

Facilitating

Amazeballs. How did this one even catch on?

Curate

Hand-picked/hand-selected

House made

Bespoke

Epic

Fail

  1. Epic, Amazeballs and definitely Fail. Passion in the “animal-dance sense”? Can’t even comprehend that meaning and it’s making me chuckle.
